What we’re making

  • A pocket folder for every day

    A simple manual folding knife with a blade of about three inches and a strong, simple lock. Made to ride in a pocket and handle the small jobs: boxes, cord, and whatever the day brings.

  • A fixed blade for the field

    A five- to six-inch fixed blade for camping, bushcraft, and outdoor work, carried in a molded or leather sheath.

  • Materials chosen for the job

    Proven knife steels, durable G10 or canvas and linen composite handles, and satin or stonewashed finishes. We will name the exact materials for each knife when they are final.

Our story

The Mackie name comes from Ayrshire, in the southwest of Scotland. In the 1840s, a boy named David Charles Mackie went down into the coal and ironstone pits of Kilbirnie at nine years old, and taught himself engineering at night school.

The old family motto is a single word: Labora. It means work. Our signature line carries it: the LABORA line, knives made for work.

Tom Mackie has always loved good knives, the kind of tools that last and get handed down. Mackie Knife Co. is part of Mackie Family Co., Tom and Jessica Mackie's family company, built so the Mackie name stands for careful work our kids, Thomas, Alexander, Kaitlynee, and Summer, can be proud of.
